CDS Made In An All-Glass, Gas-Tight Container In 3 Hours

Test #2 for this 250ml flask. Same recipe as before. Measurements will be taken later.

Polishing the bottle neck-to-stopper joint and applying water to the joint as it was being closed, has stopped all CLO2 gas leakage from the flask. Nothing smelled.

And, as a reminder, this bottle is all glass including the "cap" (stopper). The glass-to-glass joint does not use any plastic seal, only water-wet glass.

+3 hours. It is now in the fridge where it will cool down and activate a little more. Will take measurements later today.

This method is called "Quick CDS-Dry" and there is also a "QCDS-Wet" method.

SCF = Sodium Chlorite Flakes
CAC = Citric Acid Crystals

Citric acid does not gas into CDS, but 4% HCL does. That raises the TDS (total dissolved solids) creating a "dirty" CDS.

SCF can be stored for at least 20 years, and CAC at least 12 years.

Sodium chlorite solution begins to lose potency at about 18 months, and 4% HCL will last about 3 years.

Another question? Does anyone know the size of that glass tube? :)

Hi Clo2,

Hello. I usually use well water that has been triple filtered through a Berkey and two Zero filters. The pH of this water is about 5.7 and the TDS is zero. Distilled water would be about the same.

I could add you to my Telegram chat group where you can find lots of info on Quick CDS. I would need to know your Telegram "Username" (not your Telegram "Name").

The glass reactor test tube used in the 250ml bottle was probably 20mm x 100mm. You would have to measure your bottle to find out what size test tube would fit.

I have since chosen a different shaped bottle for making QCDS-D ("Dry" method). Now use wide mouth bottles that have open, hollow glass stoppers and the glass activator test tube extends into the stopper's hollow opening. By doing that, there is less chance of spilling reactor solution into the CDS and makes for easy removal of the reactor using only fingers.

The goal of this test was to make 1500ppm CDS and that was achieved.

Personally I wouldn't recommend those glass containers with a glass lid, unless you get a very good brand that you know will be airtight.

They tend to not be airtight and so will leak, unless you sand them down to fit.

The good old clip lid containers that CLO2 originally used work just fine.

They tend to not be airtight and so will leak, unless you sand them down to fit. I do that using a diamond rotary tool at the top part of the stopper, and diamond embedded pastes everywhere on the glass bottle mouth to glass stopper joint. I can't sell faulty CDS making kits, now can I? Have been working on this for over one year.

The good old clip lid containers that CLO2 originally used work just fine. Most of those clamp-wire bottles leak like a sieve, even the expensive higher quality bottles, has been my experience.

And, there is not much pressure inside those clamp-wire jars compared to the very high pressure inside bottles using the QCDS-D method. The high pressure is present for the first 30 minutes of the 3 hour activation period, then reduces.

I found if you put an extra seal on the clip-lid jars it doesn't leak at all and is a lot tighter obviously.

Not saying you shouldn't use them, just make sure they don't leak.

Hi CL02,
Do you sell the boro jar and ground lid? If so, where could I buy them?
