Vitamin D serum levels are very important - especially for those of us in the northern latitudes. It is produced when skin is exposed to sunlight - which we don't get much of up here in the fall / winter months.

To add to the problem here in Canada - our nanny state health care will not test for serum levels (males anyway). We can not even offer to pay for a test. If you don't have rickets - your levels are fine - very scientific!!

I've been part of a levels vs symptoms study since 2009. Part of this study are serum levels testing (every 6 months). Cost is about $60.00.

In order to maintain optimal levels - I take 8000 IU D3 a day.

To investigate the importance of D3, or join the study go to:

www.grassrootshealth.net/

The clincher for me was the graph of incidence of certain diseases vs latitude (exposure to sunlight). Isn't it interesting that aliopathetic medicine never mentions that?

How much you need to maintain a level of about 70 is different from person to person.
I need only 4,000 a day. I eat the D3 gummy bears.
