Tip for when making CDS

Just a short tip when making CDS. Many others may have thought of this but it works to prevent the need for ventilation. Use as small neck bottle or jar as possible. Then after inserting your tube place a damp rag tightly around the tube, voila. No gas leaking and it probably even increases the concentration of the CDS. However, just to be doubly sure it's still good to ventilate but this method almost prevents all the previously escaping gas. And as Pam mentioned don't force the rag into the bottle just place it loosely around the top. It's permeable so there will be no pressure build up. Also I've found the diffuser that Jim mentions in his video definitely gets more product into solution. Via Con Dios.

As long as the rag and be dislodged if necessary - early on in the CDS making chronicles, we had a few people who managed to explode a bottle or so - which is why JH went to the open bottles on the receiver bottles.

So place the tube in a narrow, short bottle and then wrap the moist fabric around the tube and the opening? Do i have that correct?

What would be the harm in leaking gas?

All the cloth is for is semi sealing the opening so all you need to do is cover the opening. I just mentioned a small opening because it's easier to cover. I use a diffuser so the opening has to be large enough for the diffuser to go into the bottle.

There's really no harm in leaking gas as long as you have a fan blowing with a window up. In fact I cook mine on the stove with the exhaust fan on. Just one other advantage to covering the receiving bottle. I figure if your keeping the gas in the bottle the product loses less strength to the exhaust. Just a theory but it does for sure help with having to breathe the stuff if you've ever gotten a good whiff.
